Chronology and catalogue links — assessed 10-10-2026: See the Institutional Involvement Roadmap (1877–2026) for the date-ordered institution, people and evidence sequence. The reported 1988 Cadw-to-Minister spot-listing letter has its own placeholder at GHF-E152; the original has not been attached to that page as at 10-10-2026. A placeholder records an evidence gap, not the letter’s contents.

Forensic Assessment — Cardiff County Court

Scope: the historic Cardiff County Court record as an institutional custodian/administrator. Judicial merits are not recast as misconduct.

Critical role

The 1962 proceedings are a key control point because the action concerned the farmhouse and garden specifically and resulted in an order dated 11 December 1962. The court record may establish the exact land claimed, parties, pleaded basis, plan, mesne-profit claim and enforcement authority.

Adjudicative role and earlier title / limitation case

The Court of Appeal later treated the 11 December 1962 possession order as an enforceable judgment which prevented the adverse-possession defence, calculated from 1953/1955, from succeeding before the 1974 enforcement steps. The separate family contention is that the relevant title or twelve-year limitation period for Parcel A may have matured much earlier—potentially by 1940 if adverse possession began in 1928. That alternative was not expressly analysed in the published 1987 reasons as a standalone date calculation.

The court’s role must therefore be examined on its own record. Mary and Frederick were defendants in the 1962 proceedings for the farmhouse and garden. Obtain the claim, defence, particulars, plan, order and any record of Mary’s alleged “previous statement”; establish whether she raised her independent ownership case, what the judge decided about title and parcel extent, and what binding or preclusive effect the order could have on an earlier-accrued claim. Do not assume either that the order cured a defective root title or that it was legally irrelevant.

The 1954 tenant-making attempt is a separate family-chronology lead at GHF-E182. The accessible published appeal report does not mention the year 1954; the source for that event remains to be located.

Forensic control test

The present electronic-system search is not the same thing as recovery of the historic paper file. The critical evidence is therefore the retention, transfer, destruction or archive history of the 1962 case materials. The court’s adjudicative role must be scrutinised as well as its record-custody role: the 1962 claim and order later became a decisive part of the Court of Appeal’s limitation reasoning because the order was still enforceable in 1974.

Obtain the claim, particulars, defence, plan, order, mesne-profit schedule, any previous statement by Mary, hearing note/transcript, warrant and enforcement history. Determine exactly what land was claimed, whether Mary’s ownership assertion was pleaded or otherwise before the court, whether the order’s scope followed the same parcel boundary as the 1939 tenancy or the later “whole farm” terminology, and what the judge actually decided. The family’s 1954 tenancy-attempt lead (GHF-E182) is separate from the recognized 1949–1953 tenancy and should be considered only if a record shows it was relevant to the 1962 proceedings or later argument.

Current finding

As at 10-10-2026, the material reviewed does not establish judicial wrongdoing in the proceedings reviewed. This does not conclude that every procedural or evidential issue is resolved. The issue is evidential reconstruction: what the 1962 court actually received and what land its order legally covered.

Human action

Obtain the full 1962 file, including claim, particulars, order, plan, warrant/execution record, correspondence and any transcript/judge’s note. Compare it with the 1939 tenancy plan and 1949 surrender/re-grant.

Acceptance: the 1962 proposition-to-evidence matrix is complete or a defensible retention-search escalation is recorded.

Institutional appearance timeline — linked source index

Coverage rule: this is a chronological navigation map of published Wiki source pages found by searching the current site index for “Cardiff County Court”. Every event label links directly to the page containing the source. The page is intended to avoid duplicating source narratives. It records mention/appearance, not culpability. The displayed date is a source/title date cue, not automatically the date on which the named institution acted. This matters for newspaper stories, later summaries and titles naming more than one event; open the source before attributing an act. Search indexing is a discovery aid, not proof of exhaustive coverage. 🕒
